Cantus Reni and the accordion orchestra Schüttorf on Sunday in the city park

Rheine. How nice it is to combine the pleasure of coffee and cake with the experience of life music on a Sunday afternoon in Rheines city park. This year’s second Stadtparkkonzert opens the women’s choir Cantus Reni, next Sunday, 11.06.2023, at 2 pm. The choir offers this afternoon a colorful predominantly German-language mix of melodies suitable for spring. It is about love, peace and joy. Cantus Reni celebrates 40 years of the choir this year and has composed and arranged a song about our city Rheine for this anniversary. On this day they experience a real premiere, because the Rheine-song is sung for the very first time in front of an audience in the city park.

The age-mixed group of at present 36 singers, who are partially present from the establishment year 1983 on, would like to arrange one thing, i.e. that the joy at singing jumps over on the public. Under the motto “We are all Cho(h)r – every voice counts”, Cantus Reni cordially invites you to the Stadtpark concert on Sunday. The concert will end around 3:30 pm.

Afterwards the accordion orchestra Schüttorf is guest in the city park Rheine. In the time from 16.30 to 18.00 o’clock they play from their repertoire many popular melodies from musicals, film music as well as all kinds of well-known hits. Among them are melodies from the musical “Grease”, the movies “Rocky” and “Dirty Dancing”, as well as big hits from Boney M., Gilbert Becaud, Toto and Coldplay. Especially interesting is the “Israeli Suite No. II”, which shows once that the accordion can also sound “quite different”.

Today’s accordion orchestra Schüttorf was founded on October 11, 1953 by 5 music idealists, among them Günter Worbs as conductor for many years, under the name “Harmonika-Freunde Schüttorf”. On April 16, 1955 there was the first public concert. At further concerts varied programs were played in different instrumentations from accordion duo to full orchestra. In the following years the group grew to 17 members. A special highlight in the orchestra’s history was certainly the participation in the Harmonica World Festival in Lucerne (1964). Here 540 orchestras with more than 6,000 players from 21 countries met.

Since 2006 the accordion orchestra Schüttorf is under the musical direction of graduate music teacher Ellen Ütrecht, who was also active as a player before her studies. Currently the accordion orchestra consists of about 30 active musicians. Anyone who would like to become active in the accordion orchestra is very welcome. Information about contact and rehearsals is available at www.akkordeonorchester-schuettorf.de.
