Civic trips to Bernburg and Trakai

Rheine. The twin towns of Bernburg and Trakai are the destinations of two citizens’ trips lasting several days that the Rheine Town Twinning Association is offering this year. While the Rheinenser will participate in June in Bernburg in the 52nd rose celebration, in the Lithuanian twin town Trakai the 700-year anniversary is celebrated.

The trip to Bernburg will take place from June 3 to 5. Already on 30 May a 15-headed cyclist group under the guidance of Engelbert Nagelschmidt sets out. The group will cover the nearly 400 kilometers in six daily stages and reach the Saale city on Saturday, June 4. And the Bernburgers will prepare a beautiful receipt for the cycling Rheinensern in the context of their city celebration. Together they will then experience the traditional festival in Bernburg and learn more about the traditional city on the Saale during guided tours.

The citizens’ trip to Trakai begins on September 5. In the coach the journey leads first to Karlsham (Sweden), and from there with the night ferry to Klaipeda (Memel) in Lithuania. The next day’s program includes a visit to Nidda and Juodkrante on the Curonian Spit, and in the evening a city tour of Klaipeda, where the group will also spend the night. The Amber Museum in Palanga, the Baltic Sea beach and the Hill of Crosses are the destinations on the following day before continuing on to Vilnius. There, September 8 begins with a guided tour of the city before continuing on to nearby Trakai. There the Rheinenser take part in the conclusion of the anniversary celebrations on the steeped in tradition island castle.

A Kibinai meal in a traditional restaurant of the Karaites at the Galve lake may not be missing thereby naturally. On the return journey after further program points in Vilnius first a full-day attendance stands in the city Kaunas on the program, the European culture capital 2022. In the evening the bus drives on the ferry Klaipeda Kiel and on 11 September the coach will drive from Kiel again to Rheine. Further information likewise with Heike Born under Tel. 939 221 or by Mail
