During the period between March 21 and Oct. 31, 16,760 tiles were wiped at Borne. Flowers, plants and trees were planted in their place. Under the motto “less gray, more green,” the municipality is working with residents to make the living environment healthier and more climate-adaptive. Together, some 1,500 square meters have been greened; an area the size of the Rheinesquare. Borne achieved sixth place in the ranking of small municipalities during the NK Tegelwippen. In the pool of Twente Wippers, Borne finished fifth. In the overall ranking, Borne finished ninth out of all 136 participating municipalities with a TPI (number of tiles per 1,000 inhabitants) of 718.91.
Alderman Michael Geerdink: “I would like to thank everyone who took part in the tile competition. As a small municipality, we can be proud of such a result in which, looking at the number of tiles wiped per 1000 inhabitants, we left other larger municipalities behind. With more green and less gray, together we ensure a pleasant and future-proof living environment in Borne”. As a thank you for rocking tiles, municipality Borne provided a free tree for at least 2.5 m2 of rocked tiles. To pick up the tiles, residents could use the free Tile Taxi.
NK Tile Dipping
Municipalities could participate in the national competition NK Tegelwippen, in which Borne participated for the first time this year. Borne competed in the ranking for small municipalities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants. In addition, Borne competed in the pool of Twentse Wippers. In that, municipality Oldenzaal became the winner with a TPI of 2022.65. Municipality Almelo wiped the most tiles (81,831 pieces) and thus also became winner of the national ranking for medium-sized municipalities.
Future
Municipality Borne continues to encourage residents to anticipate a fine living environment ready for the weather of the future. Among other things, the municipality offers a subsidy for disconnecting rainwater. More information can be found at www.Borne.nl/subsidy-disconnect-rainwater.
