Register for the information bike tour on 08.06.2022

Rheine. Attentive cyclists in Rheine will not have failed to notice that many red and white bollards and barrier posts, which are often installed in the middle of bike paths and sidewalks, are being successively removed and dismantled by the city.

Responsible for these measures is the implementation of the city’s bicycle traffic concept, which provides for the dismantling of circulation grids and barrier posts. Circulation grids and barrier posts are impractical for cyclists and cargo cyclists, entail a higher risk of accidents, reduce the acceptance of bike lanes and, if designed incorrectly, can impair the speedy clearing of streets to be crossed by groups or by bicycles with trailers and cause considerable traffic hazards.

In general, a lot has happened in terms of bicycle traffic in the past two years: An implementation-oriented bicycle traffic concept was created, employees were hired, the restructuring and bundling of departments was completed, several funding programs were applied for, numerous infrastructure measures were implemented or are close to completion, and currently the award as a bicycle-friendly city and the admission to the working group of pedestrian and bicycle-friendly cities and municipalities is imminent.

The department 5.30 mobility and traffic planning, would like to inform the citizens locally about converted and in the future planned measures and offers an information cycle route to the closing time.

In the context of the approx. two-hour bicycle tour, which begins on Wednesday 08.06.2022, at 18:00 in front of the city hall, numerous measures will be explained and presented in detail under the expert guidance of head of construction Milena Schauer and her team.

The number of participants is limited. Interested parties who would like to take part in the information tour are asked to register: Under Tel.: 939-330 or by E-Mail under: Michael Wolters of the mobility management of the city takes the reservations gladly.
