A theater project at Centro S. Antonio
Rheine. cpr. After the successful conclusion of the first round of the theater project “Dream a little before you think – and then let’s start together” at Centro S. Antonio, the intercultural meeting center of Caritas Rheine, the project started a new round in the second week of vacation. The 15 students of the Ludgerusschule were able to slip into different roles and let off steam creatively. Under the guidance of theater teachers Martina Robin and Conny Leonhardt, the children took a crash course in the world of theater. How do I stand on a stage? Why is body language so crucial and how can I perceive and express feelings? The common goal was quickly clear: a performance in front of their families on the last day, so that they could proudly present what they had learned. Because even the little ones already know: theater only really comes to life when there is an audience that can be touched. With great enthusiasm and a lot of imagination, the children staged their own little play.
The way there led through methods of mindfulness, standing and mirroring, expression-centered and group-building methods, as well as a lot of fun and games. As student Merava describes it, “In theater, I get to do everything: play, make things, have fun, listen to music, and dance.” The other participants enthusiastically agreed with this statement. The word “corona” had only a limited presence in this small world, as even the term mask was “re-memorized” by making theater masks with glitter and crown dust.
“We wanted to open up new spaces of experience for the children with the theater education projects. The children were able to experience their self-efficacy in theater play and strengthen their self-confidence and self-assurance through the success of their presentation to the audience. After all, theater play offers the opportunity to grow beyond oneself and together as a community. For this reason and because of the positive response, we would like to offer this project again during the summer vacations,” said Julia Weschmann and Natalie Holthaus from the Migration and Integration Service of Caritas Rheine.
