100% green gas for municipal property by 2025

Together with a number of other Twente municipalities, Borne municipality has started a joint procurement process for a European tender for the supply of green and/or CO2-compensated gas. This means that as of 1 January 2025 the municipal real estate will be fully sustainable with green gas.

2025: the right momentIn a few years’ time, the town hall will be integrated with the Kulturhus in the New Borne House. Sportpark Het Wooldrik will also be sustainably renovated. As a result, it is expected that gas demand will be reduced by approximately 75% by 1 January 2025. Therefore, 2025 is the right time to switch to sustainable gas. A number of other Twente municipalities will already be switching to green gas in 2023.

Locally produced gasBorne municipality and the other collaborating municipalities are opting for locally produced green gas from AVI Twente B.V. (a subsidiary of Twence Holding). Green gas is upgraded (made suitable for use in built-up areas) green gas, and therefore 100% sustainable gas. One possible source of green gas is the manure treatment plant in Zenderen.
