Borne The city council is taking the next step in the redevelopment of RheinePlatz. At the end of August last year, the college proposed opting for the demolition of the current town hall and allowing a new building to be constructed. Following a discussion at the Education Committee meeting on September 9 last year, it was requested that this proposal be revised. The revised proposal comes to the conclusion that the scenario of demolition and new construction offers the greatest potential to make RheinePlatz a lively and attractive part of the village center again.Image-defining location in the heart of Borne Rheine Platz is in a prominent location in the center of Borne and has various spatial challenges. The reinterpretation of the Rheinesquare is intended to create a lively square that attracts visitors and entrepreneurs, fits in well with the village scale and architectural quality of the center and strengthens the lines of sight to Oud Borne. Quality, cohesion and sustainability are of central importance here. The aim is also to achieve a good spatial design and complement the public space with sufficient parking facilities without increasing the parking pressure in the area.Councillor Lammers underlines the importance of this step: ” RheinePlatz is a place of the heart for many residents of Borne. We want to turn it into a sustainable, attractive and lively square that fits in with the character of our village. By opting for demolition and new construction, wirechte can add quality and create space for a design that does justice to the identity of Borne. “Demolition and new construction as the most promising optionThe demolition and new construction scenario is seen as the most feasible and promising development direction for realizing the ambitions for the Rheinesquare. This approach offers scope for a fresh start with a design that is in keeping with the identity and scale of Borne and at the same time future-proof.Development perspective with clear framework conditionsAfter the decision-making process, the municipality will begin to draw up a development perspective in which the spatial framework conditions, ambitions and design starting points are defined. This perspective contains guidelines for urban planning requirements, image quality and architecture, traffic and parking, sustainability, ecology, greenery and archaeology. It also addresses the connection betweenRheine Platz and other development sites in the center of Borne. The development perspective will be submitted to the city council for approval in mid-2026.
