Exhibition in the Glückskiste bookshop
Rheine. Anger is a powerful feeling, it sets boundaries, protects and strengthens. But women in particular have often been deprived of this feeling. The exhibition “Anger is female” by photographer Rosa Engel shows why female anger is important – as a signal, as protection and as a source of energy.
From 18 to 29 November, the city’s equal opportunities officer Rheine, the women’s advice center Rheine and the Glückskiste bookshop are showing this impressive project in the bookshop’s new gallery space. On display are 18 photographs, 6 impulse texts and QR codes with further information.
The exhibition is deliberately taking place around the International Day “No to Violence against Women” on November 25. “Even today, women still experience border crossings every day,” say the initiators Jana Bida and Gaby Beckmann. “Admitting anger and making it visible is an important step towards self-protection and strength.”
Bookseller Birgitta Bolte is happy to support the project: “Art and literature can make social issues visible. We want to create a place where exchange is possible.” In keeping with this, she has designed a shop window in the spirit of Orange Days and put together a selection of books about empowerment and female anger.
Staff from the women’s advice center will be available for discussions on Wednesday, 19.11., from 11:00-12:30 and on Monday, 24.11., from 14:00-15:30, in the gallery space.
