Salzgewinnung im 16. Jahrhundert. Darstellung aus Georg Agricola: De res metallica, Stadt- und Bergbaumuseum Freiberg

Public guided tour of the Falkenhof Museum

At the Falkenhof Museum, you can currently experience how significant documents from six centuries can bring past times back to life. The current special exhibition “Salt. Stories of the white gold from Rheine” takes visitors back to the time when the salt works in Rheine supplied the people of Münsterland with essential salt. A public tour on Sunday, January 14 at 3 pm will focus on the people who profited from the salt trade and who produced the salt by hard manual labor. They include the workers, the aristocratic entrepreneurs who modernized the business and the canons of the Bentlage monastery. In the 20th century, a spa business also developed at the salt works and a photographer and a researcher began to document the history of the salt works. During the guided tour, you will get to know the stories of these people and at the same time follow an important chapter in the history of the town Rheine. The participation fee is €5, the meeting point is at the museum ticket office. Information: 05971 – 939 711.
