Trainees from the city of Rheine collect for the VDK

Rheine. As has been traditional for decades, all trainees from the city of Rheine took part in the street collection for the German War Graves Commission (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V.) at the end of 2023. The collection was accompanied by an additional sale of waffles to colleagues in the town hall, which was organized independently by the trainees. “A great idea that shows us how committed our young employees are,” said Florentine Kühs-Sandmann (Head of Training). Treasurer and First Alderman Mathias Krümpel, together with the Chairman, Andre Brüggemann, also thanked them for their special and voluntary work during a brief meeting.

The waffle sale raised a considerable sum of €310.86. Together with the street collection, a total of €924.76 was raised, a great success.

What many people don’t know: The Volksbund not only looks after and maintains gravesites, but is also involved in the culture of remembrance, promotes encounters and education for young people at the graves and advises – also internationally – on issues relating to war graves care.
