Reading by Christiane Amini at the Intercultural Meeting Center Centro S. Antonio
RheineOn Thursday, October 19, 2023, a reading with Christiane Amini from her book “1001 Truth” took place in the intercultural meeting center Centro S. Antonio. The reading was organized by Christa Heufes (Team Beratung und Begleitung von Zuwanderern der Stadt Rheine), Gaby Beckmann (Gleichstellungsbeauftragte der Stadt Rheine) and Elke Zeitner (Fachdienst Migration, Caritasverband Rheine).
About 25 people accepted the invitation and came to the intercultural meeting center Centro S. Antonio. In her book, Christiane Amini describes her time as the girlfriend and later wife of a young Iranian and her life in her then adopted country, Iran. Here she experienced three epochs in the period from 1975: Imperial times, revolution and war.
Very vividly and excitingly Amini describes her experiences about the foreign culture and reports about the experiences in love, marriage, family and about the interaction of different cultures. She was received with boundless hospitality – later she managed to escape to Germany with great effort.
The reading experienced a special tension when Christiane Amini, in an energetic tone, asked some of the listeners to put on the headscarves that had been distributed – and to do so properly!
Thus, the audience learned impressively how totalitarian governments control the lives of people, especially women, both many years ago and still today.
“Christiane Amini was able to inspire the listeners and to take an appreciative look at their own history and at other cultures in order to gain more understanding for each other. A successful event, a beautiful evening with exciting exchange between the author and the audience in the Centro S. Antonio”, explains Gaby Beckmann, Equal Opportunities Officer of the city Rheine.
