History on the road in…, is the title of a new series of events of the Verein für Geschichte und Altertumskunde Westfalens, Abt. Münster. It begins on Wednesday, March 29 (7 p.m.), at the Falkenhofmuseum in Rheine with a lecture on “Hofnamen im Münsterland. Origin and development”. With Dr. Christof Spannhoff, the association and the Falkenhof have gained a speaker who can vividly describe from his own research why farm names offer exciting insights into local history. Westhoff, Große and Kleine Sundrup, Brüning or Velthus – these names sound genuinely Münsterlandish. But why is that so and why, how and when did these names come into being? What is behind them and how has today’s farm and family name landscape in Münsterland and especially in Rheine developed over time? Questions about questions that Spannhoff will answer during his exciting journey through time – which covers a good 1200 years from the beginnings of the written tradition to the late 19th century. The association invites all interested parties to attend this lecture. Admission is free.
