Million stars for a fairer world!

In November 2022, Caritas in Germany will once again organize the “One Million Stars” solidarity campaign. Throughout Germany, Caritas associations under the leadership of Caritas international, the relief organization of the German Caritas, set a sign of hope – for people in need here and around the world. So also today numerous people found themselves on the market place and put on candles.

The focus of the action is this year the aid of Caritas international in Colombia. Against the backdrop of the Caritas annual campaign #DasMachenWirGemeinsam, Caritas international supports an aid project for children and young people who have fled with their parents from Venezuela to Colombia. They don’t show up at any Colombian school, sports field, doctor. Their parents came to visit or cross the green border to Colombia and stayed. Because there was no more work for them in Venezuela or their meager wages were not even enough for one meal a day. Almost two million Venezuelan migrants are registered in Colombia. But no one knows how many there actually are. More than half of them have no regular residence status and thus no work permit and no protection against exploitation and violence.

This year, part of the proceeds from the candle and beverage sales will go to the counseling center for the disabled and their families.

Caritas pastor Meinolf Winzeler told the fairy tale “The Queen Bee” to set the mood.
