Leisure activities offered by the youth counseling center are intended to bring young people together again
Rheine. cpr. On May 21, the leisure time event calendar of the youth counseling of the Caritasverband Rheine started with a trip to the climbing forest Ibbenbüren, where young people finally meet again after the pandemic and grow together beyond themselves. “Thanks to federal funding, a free leisure activity can take place every month from May to October under the motto “Together instead of lonely,” with two aspects in mind for young people. On the one hand, the aim is to bring young people between the ages of 14 and 27 back together and establish social contacts, as these have often fallen by the wayside among young people as a result of the pandemic. On the other hand, the young people can always learn something about themselves during the activities,” describes Lea Bröker from the youth counseling center. Self-confidence is to be strengthened and the mindful handling of one’s own needs improved. “Get to know new people, try things out and do something good for yourself for a change,” is what the calendar of events says.
All events are designed for young people between the ages of 14 and 27, free of charge, and travel costs are also included. Here is a brief overview: The canoe trip on June 11 involves movement and action. The visit to the salt workshop at the Saline on July 6 focuses on “self-care” with homemade bath salts. On August 13, 20 and 27, there will be an assertiveness course for which all young people are welcome, regardless of gender. You can participate in one, two or all three dates, because there will always be something different to learn. In the cooking duel on September 8, we will indulge in a three-course meal where young people can compete against each other. The calendar of events will conclude on October 13 with a visit to the Escape Room, where participants will solve puzzles as a team.
All events are accompanied by staff from the youth counseling center and in some cases supported by external speakers. The number of participants is limited. Questions, further information and registrations are accepted by the Youth Counseling Service at or by phone at 05971 862-304/ -340.
